The Effects of Stress on Your Body

4/4/2017

According to the American Institute of Stress, studies have shown that an estimated 75-90% of all visits to primary care physicians stem from stress-related problems. This statistic might sound staggering or inaccurate. What we don’t realize is that stress is attributed to numerous health risks and conditions including:

  • Hypertension
  • Stroke
  • Upset stomach
  • Headaches
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes
  • Insomnia
  • Chest pain
  • Ulcers
  • Anxiety
  • Heart disease
  • Arthritis and more!

Because of this, stress is referred to as America’s #1 health problem.

Springtime can be particularly mentally and physically taxing on the body and mind. Tax season is stressful for more than just accountants. Since money is one of the biggest contributors to stress, business owners and households also feel added anxiety this time of year. Combine that with muscle tension or pain incurred by deep spring cleaning, and you’ve got a recipe for physical and mental turmoil.

At Living Touch Massage in Bemidji, Rita will discuss your everyday stressors as well as physical symptoms you’re experiencing. Regular therapeutic massage can significantly reduce symptoms and tension caused by stress. We want you to be the healthiest version of you this spring, physically and mentally. Call Rita today to book your appointment and be on your way to a healthier, happier YOU!

Rita's Notes
During tax season, along with any other time of the year that we have to deal with income, expenses, budget or taxes, people have a tendency to be more stressed. We wonder if we budgeted right and did we set enough aside to pay the taxes? The stress can interrupt our sleep since we clench our teeth more and sit in front of the computer longer. This contributes to more headaches. Regular massage, especially during these times, helps get the aches and pains out of the shoulders and neck. This calms the system and in turn helps with sleep, decreases headaches, and helps to keep us from feeling so overwhelmed.
