An Introduction to the 6 Areas of Self Care

These days, self-care is talked about so frequently that it is difficult to even determine why we adore using the term so much. Reading a nice book and going to the spa aren't the only forms of self-care. It is so much more than that. So what exactly is it, and why is it so important?

Emotional Self-Care
These are the things you can do to connect with, process, and think about your emotions. How you handle your emotions reveals a lot about how much you value your own self. Managing your emotions involves responding to them in a healthy way.
Examples: Seeing a therapist, writing in a journal, creating art, playing music etc.

Practical Self-Care
All facets of your life are affected by this kind of self-care. tasks you finish that satisfy several areas of your life. It entails being physically active, eating right, and caring for your physical health. It also includes maintaining your home, taking a course to develop in your career, or taking care of your finances by setting aside money for savings whenever you can.

Physical Self-Care
This form of self-care is the one that receives the most attention among the others. Physical self-care entails taking steps to enhance your physical health. consuming, sleeping, and drinking enough.
Examples: Taking a walk during lunch breaks, sleeping eight hours a day, staying hydrated, etc.

Mental Self-Care
It's true that attitude is a little factor but has a significant impact. You can concentrate on improving yourself and growing personally through the activities in this group. Your mental health is significantly influenced by what you give your attention to. Because of this, using positive self-talk is crucial.
Examples: Reading a book, solving a puzzle, playing chess, going to a museum, etc.

Social Self-Care
Maintaining relationships with the people you choose to have in your life is crucial. How you feel about yourself is greatly influenced by the people you choose to be with. Get rid of anyone who is toxic and just causes you issues. It doesn't matter if you are an introvert, an extrovert, or an ambivert. The only person who should establish your boundaries is you.
Examples: Brunch with friends, going on a date, making time to call your mom regularly, etc.

Spiritual Self Care
It's good to take care of your body and intellect, but what about your soul? How closely do you feel to your actual, authentic self? Religion need not be a part of spiritual self-care or cultivating your spirit. Doing things that nourish your soul is important.
Examples: Meditation, yoga, going to a place of worship, being in nature, dedicating time for self-reflection, etc.

Develop Your Self-Care Plan
Everybody's definition of self-care is unique. You will need to adjust your self-care plan to fit your own needs. A busy working mother's self-care strategy will be different from a college-bound student's one. Self-reflection and determining your unique needs for self-care are crucial to start with. The greatest place to start is with the aspects of your life that are currently being neglected. Self-care should always come first.
